GOSHEN – Orange County Executive Steven Neuhaus has taken a seven-acre parcel in the hamlet of Sugar Loaf in the Town of Chester off the auction block and wants to acquire an adjacent 350 acres.

The county executive would like to develop a county trail network in Scott’s Meadow.

“It goes from Sugar Loaf all the way over this little swamp next to the Tin Barn Brewery, and my long-term plan, if things work out, is to procure Sugar Loaf Mountain – 350 acres – and make it an outdoor hiking destination,” he told members of the Orange County Chamber of Commerce on a Zoom call Thursday.

The mountain acreage is privately owned and Neuhaus said he would only move forward with his idea if all of the owners agreed to sell.
