WASHINGTON – When Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney (D, NY-18) convinced the Coast Guard to temporarily ban oil barge anchorages from the Hudson River from Yonkers to Kingston, he vowed they would never be allowed.

He has made good on that promise as the House has approved his provision in the National Defense Authorization Act of 2021 that will permanently ban the establishment of new anchorages.

“We are the gatekeepers of the Hudson River, and it’s up to us to be good stewards of the river so New Yorkers can enjoy it for generations to come,” he said.

The measure now goes to the Senate for action.

Maloney is chairman of the Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation Subcommittee.
