ALBANY – Assuming the FDA approves the COVID-19 vaccine Thursday (tomorrow) and the state review committee gives its okay on Friday, vaccine could arrive as soon as this weekend, Governor Cuomo said on Wednesday.

The first to receive the shots in New York will be nursing home residents and healthcare workers. They would be followed by high-risk hospital workers.

The state is expected to receive 170,000 doses from the federal government in the first round with 19,200 doses initially designated for the Mid-Hudson Valley.

Another primary population to be targeted in the state are the black and brown communities, who the governor noted are medically under-served. An educational campaign will be launched to spread the word for the need to have residents vaccinated.

The governor also said he convinced the CDC to agree not to require personal identification information from undocumented residents in order for them to be vaccinated.
