POUGHKEEPSIE – A Sanitation Department employee assigned to the City of Poughkeepsie’s transfer station has tested positive for COVID-19, Mayor Rob Rolison announced late Friday.

The transfer station is closed, and the mayor said anyone who brought materials to the transfer station between Tuesday, December 1 and Friday, December 4 should be on alert for symptoms and seek testing if symptoms begin to develop.

Due to that situation, residents may experience longer than normal collection times for the sanitation pick up next week.

Symptoms of COVID-19 include fever, coughing, shortness of breath, trouble breathing and fatigue.

More information about COVID-19, including health-related matters, can be found here, https://cityofpoughkeepsie.com/coronavirus.

The city is also conducting a thorough cleaning and disinfection of the transfer station, which is located at the Department of Public Works facilities on Howard Street.
