KINGSTON – Ulster County officials are looking to transfer the Enterprise West property, which was recently bonded for $399,282 for reconstruction, to a local development corporation as surplus pending the results of a public hearing.

Officials believe the most effective way it can place the former Tech City property back on the tax rolls is to move it to an LDC.

Chairman Brian Cahill said that is in line with the legislature’s general consensus that becoming a landlord is a burden they do not want.

“It doesn’t mean we’re going to, or not going to. We all talked about the county not wanting to be in the landlord business and not wanting to be saddled with this for a long period of time. This is the first step to make sure that doesn’t happen,” said Cahill.

Before the property can be transferred to an LDC, the county must first hold a public hearing, which was resolved by the legislature’s Economic Development, Tourism, Housing and Planning Committee Tuesday evening.

That public hearing is scheduled for January 11, 2021.
