GOSHEN – In an effort to prevent Orange County Government employees from coming down with COVID-19 in numbers that could have the potential of impacting operations, the county is enacting “continuity of operation plans.”

That will include reducing in-office staff through telework and in-person staff.

County Executive Steven Neuhaus said the county is taking protective actions to ensure the health and safety of county employees and continuing to provide essential services to the public.

“We call it the ‘platoon system,’ so you basically separate departments into a number of platoons. Now, each one of them is different, based on ‘A,’ the size of their staff, and ‘B,’ the nature of what they do for work, but we are leaving it up to the department heads. We are going to work with them to try to mitigate any impact f the increased numbers,” he said.

Neuhaus consulted with County Health Commissioner Dr. Irina Gelman and Human Resources Commissioner Steve Gross in making the decision.

The county executive said splitting the workforce in half will help ensure that if one group gets sick, the other will not be infected and can continue to operate and provide services.”

Meanwhile, Neuhaus announced that three more Orange County residents have died from COVID-19 since Tuesday.
