NEWBURGH – State Assemblyman Jonathan Jacobson (D, Newburgh) has urged State Attorney General Letitia James to lead an effort to establish a multi-state gun trafficking task force to combat the flow of illegal guns into the Hudson Valley and New York State.

The task force would be comprised of state attorneys general along the I-95 corridor from North Carolina through the northeast.

“All the states are experiencing gun violence but no one state can combat gun trafficking by itself, so therefore it is necessary to band together and to effectively go after illegal gun trafficking,” he said.

Jacobson represents Poughkeepsie and Newburgh, two of the cities plagued with gun violence and he said those illegal weapons are being brought into New York from out-of-state.
