Cannon Street fire

POUGHKEEPSIE – A fully involved garage fire was extinguished by Poughkeepsie firefighters Tuesday night.  Firefighters from neighboring Arlington and Fairview Fire Departments assisted at the scene.

At 9:12 p.m., an individual flagged down a city police officer and notified him of a fire in a two-story barn-like structure at the rear of the property behind 133 Cannon Street.  The officer radioed the fire department which responded minutes later and began battling the blaze that was shooting flames through the tin roof of the barn.

The fire departments were assisted at the scene by the police department, Mobile Life Support Services medics, and Central Hudson line crews.

No injuries were reported to firefighters or civilians.  The cause and origin of the fire are unknown.

A building department official indicated that a demolition permit had been obtained by the property owner.
