WASHINGTONVILLE – The Washingtonville Police Department has begun a partnership with Hope Not Handcuffs Hudson Valley, a program of the Tri-County Community Partnership Inc.

Hope Not Handcuffs is aimed at bringing law enforcement and community organizations together in an effort to find viable treatment options for individuals seeking help to reduce dependency on heroin, prescription drugs, and alcohol.

A person struggling with any drug addiction can come to a participating law enforcement agency, ask for help and will be greeted with compassion and respect.

A police officer will contact a trained “angel” who will arrive and begin guiding the person through a brief intake process to ensure proper treatment.

Regardless of insurance status, the team will work directly with local substance abuse services for placement in a treatment facility as soon as possible.

“Addiction is not only in big cities, but is right here in our local community and I would like to personally thank Program Director Annette Kahrs for her insight with this important law enforcement program and we all look forward to helping anyone with addiction,” said Police Chief Brian Zaccaro.
