Palenville man charged after bicyclist dies following crash

SAUGERTIES – A Palenville man has been charged with failing to yield the right of way following the death of a bicyclist.

On November 3 at 12:38 p.m., Saugerties Police were called to an accident involving a motor vehicle and bicycle at the intersection of Fish Creek Road and Patch Road in the Town of Saugerties.

Investigation determined a 44-year-old New York City man was cycling on Fish Creek Road when he collided with a 1995 Mercedes, driven by Craig Pederson, 55, of Palenville.

Police said Pederson was traveling south of Fish Creek Road when he made a left turn onto Patch Road, failing to yield to the cyclist, causing a collision.

The victim, who suffered serious injury in the crash, was airlifted to Albany Medical Center where he died on November 20.

Police did not release the name of the victim.

Saugerties Police were assisted at the scene of the crash by Diaz Ambulance paramedics, the Centerville Cedar Grove Fire Department, State Police and the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office.
