MID-HUDSON – COVID-19 cases increased after Halloween because of parties and much the same is anticipated with Thanksgiving gatherings next week.

Dutchess County Executive Marcus Molinaro said those gatherings are driving up the numbers.

“Most of our cases are associated with social events and that interaction, household transmission… and we are seeing travel-related positive cases,” he said.

Orange County Executive Steven Neuhaus said a recent party in Pine Bush has resulted in a virus cluster.

“That Pine Bush area party that they had, now they are up to 20 positive cases with 54 awaiting test results,” he said.

The message from both county officials is to avoid large gatherings, wear those face coverings and wash your hands often.

Two more people have died from COVID-19 in Orange County, bringing the death toll to 516.
