KINGSTON – Ulster County Board of Elections employees have been working overtime since election day counting absentee ballots.

The county legislature is about to approve a one-time compensatory payment for the rank-and-file workers as well as the two deputy commissioners.

Legislator Jonathan Heppner told the Laws and Rules Committee Monday evening it was the right thing to do.

“We are talking about essentially making right and paying county workers who have, because of unprecedented times, have had to work very differently and essentially have been asked, and have been working for free,” he said.

Including the two deputy commissioners in the comp time payment was an amendment to the committee resolution.
