ALBANY – The 2020-21 regular deer and bear hunting seasons in the southern zone of New York begin at sunrise on Saturday, November 21, and continue through Sunday, December 13.

Harvest during this season accounts for nearly 60 percent of the total statewide deer harvest and 30 to 60 percent of the statewide bear harvest.

Following the regular deer and bear seasons in the southern zone, late bowhunting, and muzzleloading seasons will run from December 14 through 22.

Hunters in those special seasons must possess a hunting license and either bowhunting or muzzleloading privileges.

“Hunters help balance deer and bear population with local habitats and land uses, while enjoying cherished family traditions and harvesting more than 11 million pounds of quality, locally grown, organic meat,” said State Environmental Conservation Commissioner Basil Seggos.
