Mount Vernon man indicted for murder

WHITE PLAINS – A Mount Vernon man has been indicted by a Westchester County grand jury in the May shooting death of another Mount Vernon.

Negus Kirton, 37, is alleged to have shot and killed 21-year-old Michael Toro early on the morning of May 5 in the area of Darling and Claremont avenues in Mount Vernon. Toro had been shot in the head, back and arm.

The two men knew each other.

After a full investigation, Mount Vernon Police arrested Kirton on October 2.

Kirton was formally charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon and remanded to the Westchester County Jail in lieu of $250,000 cash bail, $500,000 bond or $1.5 million partially secured bond.
