NEWBURGH – The City of Newburgh Police Department has been successfully using the Shot Spotter program to instantly detect the location of gunfire for a year-and-a-half.
It is an expensive program, but the city council is expected to approve a two-year agreement with the company that operates the system -SST, Inc. – at Monday night’s city council session.
The subscription will cost $148,500 per year for a two-year total of $297,000.
In the past, the entire city council has been in support of the tool, given the amount of gun violence in the city.
