Municipal unemployment rates exceed regional level

ALBANY – The City of Mount Vernon had the highest unemployment rate of all municipalities in the Hudson Valley in September. That city’s 10.9 percent rate of joblessness was followed by 10.4 percent rates in the City of Yonkers and Town of Monroe.

The City of Newburgh had 9.7 percent unemployment while the City of Poughkeepsie had 9.1 percent.

The lowest rate in the region was in the Town of Mamaroneck, at 5.0 percent

The Hudson Valley rate of unemployment in September stood at 6.5 percent.
