MIDDLETOWN – Dozens of nurses and other healthcare professionals gathered in Middletown on Wednesday to walk to the early polling site at the senior center.
The men and women, members of Healthcare Workers 1199SEIU, wanted to express their concerns about the issues in this election, said union organizer Krystal Shorette.
“There’s a lot on the plate right now, especially for our surrounding medical facilities. Medicaid, Medicare, especially for the older communities; healthcare as a whole is up in the air right now. So, it’s important to us to make sure that we support that and we actually get out the awareness right now that healthcare is the number one priority right now, especially with this pandemic going on,” she said.
State Senator Jen Metzger said the healthcare workers are on the front lines of the pandemic and “they have a huge stake in our elections.”
