KINGSTON – Lines at polling places across the Hudson Valley during early voting this week have stretched down the block and around the corner resulting in people having to wait for hours.

With five more days of voting to go, Ulster County Executive Patrick Ryan and Legislature Chairman David Donaldson, Tuesday, urged the county board of elections to expand the hours of operation at the county’s five voting locations and add more sites.

Ryan said there must be a “smooth process for voters.”

“We have already budgeted for the inclusion of additional sites, equipment, and staff,” said Donaldson. “After speaking with several members of the legislature, it is clear that if we have voters waiting an extended period of time to vote, we should expand access to the polls as quickly as possible.”
