KINGSTON – More than a dozen people spoke out at Tuesday night’s Ulster County Legislature session about the $30 million payment-in-lieu -of-taxes proposal for the Kingstonian project in the City of Kingston.

Speaker after speaker during the Zoom-cast session said the cost of the PILOT agreement is excessive and the city taxpayers will have to subsidize the project through higher taxes.

They also expressed concern that the housing proposed for the project would be high-end, for the most part, while the city needs more workforce housing.

Approval of the PILOT agreement was pulled from the agenda pending release of an independent consultant’s review of the cost-benefits of the project. That is due to be made public on Friday.
