Highland man arrested in connection with gas station burglary

HYDE PARK – A man with two prior felony convictions has been arrested by Hyde Park Police on felony burglary charges and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail without bail by Hyde Park Justice Joseph Petito.

Hyde Park Police Chief Robert Benson said that his officers responded to the Sunoco gas station on Violet Avenue on August 25 for a burglary involving money and other items.  With the assistance of deputies from the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, officers searched the surrounding area and discovered that Phil’s Garage, which shares the building with Sunoco had also been burglarized.

Rocco Cardascia

Hyde Park detectives identified 33-year-old Rocco Cardascia as the suspect.  Cardascia was taken into custody in Highland and returned to Hyde Park police headquarters on Wednesday, October 7 where he was arrested and charged with two counts of felony burglary, felony grand larceny, and misdemeanors of criminal mischief and petit larceny.  He was remanded to Dutchess County Jail without bail and is due back in court later this month.

Chief Benson said that his agency was assisted by the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, The Town of Lloyd and Town of Poughkeepsie Police Departments, and the State Division of Parole.
