TOWN OF NEWBURGH – Following visits by “out-of-towners” on Tuesday, Town of Newburgh officials shut down Chadwick Lake Park on Wednesday for a “deep cleaning.”

Town Supervisor Gil Piaquadio said all playgrounds and bathrooms were sanitized to eliminate any threat of virus or other germs.

A photo posted on Facebook showed a group of people, some wearing face masks, with a comment that 15 busloads pulled into the park. That could not be verified.

Piaquadio would not speculate where the visitors were from when asked if they were from Kiryas Joel, one of the COVID-19 clusters in the area. He would only say they were “out-of-towners.”

He said the park would reopen on Thursday, but only for town residents who have day passes.
