WHITE PLAINS – A Bedford Hills man, Julio Cortez, 41, was sentenced on Friday, September 25, to state prison for sexually abusing a child.

Cortez, 41, pled guilty to the felony of sexual conduct against a child and was sentenced to 12 years in prison and 15 years of post-release supervision.

On October 7, 2018, Bedford Police received a phone from a teenage girl that her classmate was being sexually abused. The teen had been on FaceTime with her friend and saw a man who was not part of her family, in the room with her.

Later, when the teen inquired who he was, the victim told her friend the man was a neighbor who had been sexually abusing her for years when her parents were not home.

The victim was later interviewed at the Child Advocacy Center.

Cortez was interviewed by police and admitted to the sexual relationship.
