GOSHEN – Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler is recommending that the county’s towns and villages consider creating boards of police commissioners.

Hoovler said establishing those commissions would allow for a better flow of information on police matters between the community, police, and municipal leadership.

“As a district attorney, seeing what is going on across the country, seeing what the governor wants in his executive order, this is an easy way for the police and the elected officials to engage the public and for the public to engage with them to create better public safety and to create trust and transparency,” he said.

Orange County’s three cities, Newburgh, Middletown, and Port Jervis, already have the equivalent of police commissions in place.
