ALBANY – Healthcare workers who parked overnight at the Harriman Metro-North train station during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic and were ticketed, will have those fines voided.
State Senator James Skoufis (D – Cornwall) announced he has secured a commitment from Metro-North; NJTransit, which operates the West of Hudson Service; and LAZ, the parking lot contractor, that if any essential healthcare workers received a past parking fine, they will be voided by LAZ.
Skoufis was prompted to seek aid for the workers after a nurse told him that her only way to get to work during the height of the pandemic was by train and when she returned after her daily shift, she found a citation on her windshield.
“I went to bat for this constituent because she, like so many essential workers, deserve better,” the lawmaker said. “This nurse was putting her life at risk every time she went into work to help save others – the last things she needed were senseless parking tickets that cost money and cause stress.”
