August unemployment down from July

ALBANY – Hudson Valley unemployment in August declined from July, but still remains high over the same month last year as the region continues to feel the negative impacts of COVID-19.

Columbia County had the lowest level in August at 7.3 percent, down from 9.7 percent in July, but more than double the 3.1 rate of joblessness in August 2019.

In August, Putnam County recorded 9.3 percent unemployment compared with 12.2 percent in July and 3.9 percent in August 2019.

Ulster County also had 9.3 percent unemployment compared with 12.4 percent in July and 4.0 percent in August 2019.

In Greene County, August unemployment was at 9.7 percent compared with 12.7 percent in July and 4.5 percent in August 2019.

Rockland County recorded 10.4 percent joblessness in August, compared with 13.8 percent in July and 3.9 percent in August of last year.

In Orange County, August unemployment was 10.5 percent, down from 13.7 percent in July and 4.1 percent in August 2019.

Sullivan County unemployment in August was 10.9 percent, compared with 13.6 percent in July and 3.7 percent in August 2019.

In Westchester County, August unemployment was at 11.1 percent, compared with 14.2 percent in July and 4.1 percent in August 2019.
