PORT JERVIS – Two 16-year-old boys sustained gunshot wounds Monday night during what Port Jervis Police said was a disturbance near the intersection of Barcelow Street and Seward Avenue.
That incident occurred around 8:42 p.m. A second incident at around 11:30 pm is when shots range out two blocks away on Hammond Street. No one was injured when several gunshots pierced through the front living room window of a residence.
In the first incident, one of the teens suffered a serious gunshot wound to his lower back and the other was shot in the arm.
The youth with the serious wound underwent emergency surgery and is in stable condition. The teen with the arm wound required emergency medical treatment and is in stable condition.
Mayor Kelly Decker said the two incidents appear to be related and retaliatory. He called them isolated and said the city has been conducting outreach with the community.
“We have officers who speak to the youth and we have officers, especially the chief, who go to our many community watch meetings,” he said.
Port Jervis Police, State Police, and Town of Deerpark Police, along with the Orange County District Attorney’s Office are investigating the of shootings.
