YONKERS – Empire City Casino, operated by MGM Resorts, suspended operations in March due to the pandemic and had expected to reopen on March 28.  On Friday, the 1,100 employees that had been furloughed learned that they were being terminated by MGM.

The 1,100 employees of the casino were furloughed in May and employees were given the opportunity to keep their health insurance until August 31.

On Friday, MGM announced that the 1,100 employees at Empire City are being terminated along with thousands more MGM workers across the country.  The terminated employees will be keeping their health benefits through the end of September.

“Nothing pains me more than delivering news like this,” said MGM CEO Bill Hornbuckle in the separation letter to employees. “The heart of this company is our employees and the world-class service you provide. Please know that your leadership team is working around the clock to find ways to grow our business and welcome back more of our colleagues.”
