DUTCHESS COUNTY – New York State Police have arrested two Dutchess County residents for selling alcohol to underage individuals in a recent undercover operation to enforce underage drinking laws.
Fifteen stores were checked by utilizing an underage volunteer to purchase alcohol under the observation of plainclothes investigators and supported by uniformed troopers. Thirteen store clerks refused to complete the sale of alcohol to the volunteer. Two clerks sold an alcoholic beverage to the volunteer and were arrested.
Khaliluddin Khan, age 60, of Dover Plains, an employee of Sunoco Gas Station, 3195 State Route 22, Dover Plains, was charged with the Misdemeanor of Prohibited Sale of Alcohol to a minor. 45-year-old Wendy Huzzy of Millbrook faces the same charge. Huzzy allegedly sold alcohol to the underage volunteer while working at Berkshire Wine and Spirits on Route 22 in Diver Plains. Khan and Muzzy were both issued appearance tickets returnable in the Town of Dover Justice Court.
Both the Sunoco station and Berkshire Wine and Liquor face possible civil penalties imposed by the State Liquor Authority.
The New York State Police routinely conducts underage drinking enforcement operations throughout the state in an effort to curb alcohol abuse and DWI incidents involving teenagers.
