MONTICELLO – Isaac Kantrowitz, 87, a retired town of Fallsburg judge, was arraigned Tuesday on one count of reckless driving, a misdemeanor, following a grand jury’s indictment into his connection with an accident in June 2019 that took the lives of pedestrians Devin Zeininger, 16, and Justin Finkle, 14.
“The charges are the result of a months-long investigation and thorough analysis of the facts by a grand jury,” said Meagan Galligan, Sullivan County’s acting district attorney.
Kantrowitz charged with speeding and failure to exercise due care, violations after an investigation found that he was going 62 MPH in a 45-MPH zone. The investigation also concluded that Kantrowitz was not impaired by drug and alcohol, but legally engaged on an out-going cellphone call in a hands-free manner.
As a condition of his release, Kantrowitz was ordered to stop driving by acting Sullivan County Court Judge Bryan Rounds.
“The facts of this case are complex, and emotions have understandably run high through this process,” said Galligan.
