Sailor from Poughkeepsie afloat in Japan

OKINAWA, JAPAN – The Navy Office of Community Outreach travels the globe to collect Sailors’ stories and distribute them to their hometown media.  In the most recent, a Poughkeepsie resident has been honored.

Boatswain’s Mate Seaman Steven Johnson, from Poughkeepsie, was photographed as he handles line during a sea and anchor evolution aboard the amphibious dock landing ship USS Germantown (LSD 42) on August 21, 2020.

Germantown, part of America Expeditionary Strike Group, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit team is operating in the 7th Fleet area of operations to enhance interoperability with allies and partners, and serves as a ready response force to defend peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
