TOWN OF POUGHKEEPSIE – Police say that Andre-Pierre Cadrette went on a crime spree that began upstate on August 8 in Rome where he stole a vehicle and traveled to Dutchess County.

Town police encountered Cadrette for the first time on August 18 at 3 AM when the responded to reports of an erratic driver near South and Sheafe Roads.  Officers located the vehicle and performed a traffic stop in a parking lot on South Road.  When the vehicle was found to have been stolen, police arrested Cadrette and charged him with felony Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, two misdemeanor counts of reckless driving, and several traffic violations.  Cadrette was issued appearance tickets and released on his own recognizance with a September 8 court date.  Police say he was released under the NYS Bail Reform laws that have gone into effect.

Several hours later on the same day, the town police assisted the City of Poughkeepsie police with a stolen vehicle found in a parking lot on Main Street at 10 AM.  Police learned that the vehicle had been stolen from a driveway on Dutchess Turnpike 45 minutes earlier.  Police say that Cadrette stole the vehicle shortly after being given his appearance tickets for the earlier crimes.

On Wednesday, August 19, multiple police agencies pursued a vehicle stolen in the City of Poughkeepsie.  The New York State Police finally stopped the vehicle in Hopewell after it had been involved in a collision with another car.  Cadrette was the operator of the stolen vehicle.  He was arrested and processed by the Troopers and then transported to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital (MHRH) in Poughkeepsie for treatment.

On Wednesday afternoon, Town police responded to the Rite Aid on North Road, near MHRH, for a report of a shoplifter.  Police responded at 2:54 pm.  While still investigating the incident, a car was reported stolen at 3:05 pm on Delafield Street in the city, close to Rite Aid.  Police determined that Cadrette had left the hospital and went to Rite Aid to steal merchandise. Fifteen minutes later, police received a call for a robbery that had occurred at the Target on South Road.  The vehicle described as the one used in the robbery matched the description of the one stolen from Delafield Street.  Cadrette was identified as the suspect in both the stolen vehicle and robbery.  At 4:08 pm the vehicle, unoccupied, was located on the Metro-North train tracks in New Hamburg.  A search was conducted to locate Cadrette but was unsuccessful.

On Thursday, August 20, at 12:53 am, Cadrette was operating another stolen vehicle when city police attempted to stop him.  He fled and was pursued by the city, assisted by town police and Troopers.  The pursuit crossed the river and police from the Town of Lloyd, Town of New Paltz, SUNY New Paltz, and the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office assisted in bringing the chase to an end.  At 4:23 am, hours after the chase began, Cadrette was turned over to the town police.  The new charges include the felonies of Robbery in the 1st degree, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 4th degree, and Grand Larceny in the 4th degree.  Town Justice Paul Sullivan arraigned Cadrette and remanded him to the Dutchess County Jail on a bail of $50,000 cash or a bond of $100,000.  The accused also has the option of posting a partially-secured bond of $200,000.  He is scheduled to appear in town court on August 24.
