CORNWALL – Senator James Skoufis this week presented a check for $125,000 in state funding for Highland Engine Company’s recent parking lot resurfacing. The grant will also rehabilitate the adjacent firemen’s monument and construct a new American flag pole. Senator Skoufis secured this funding through the State and Municipal Facilities Program and the grant will be distributed by the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York (DASNY).

Highland Engine Company #1 is a volunteer-run organization that operates under the Cornwall Fire Department. Its building is located in the heart of town at Chadeayne Traffic Circle.

“Thanks to Senator Skoufis for the grant awarded to the Fire District,” said Commissioner Al Vanacore. “This grant made it possible to replace and blacktop the parking lot. Additionally, thanks to this funding, an upgrade to the firemen’s monument, and a newly installed flag pole will soon take place.”

“I’ve always supported our first responders just as they’ve always supported us, whether it’s during the pandemic, Tropical Storm Isaias, or under more mundane circumstances,” said Senator Skoufis. “Members of Cornwall’s Highland Engine Company are volunteers who selflessly serve our community and I’ll always work to get the funding they need and deserve.”
