NEW YORK – Gymnasiums may open as soon as Monday, August 24, providing they have the approval of their localities, Governor Cuomo said Monday.

Under the guidelines, the facilities may operate with 33 percent capacity, following health guidelines and ventilation requirements.

People will have to wear masks at all times, even if they are on a treadmill or other exercise devices.

Local governments must inspect each gym before it opens and if that cannot be achieved, they may open providing the locality inspects it within one week.

The municipalities may also decide on if indoor classes may be held.
