13-year-old cyclist killed Sunday night

HYDE PARK – A 13-year-old male bicyclist was killed Sunday night when he was struck by a car on Route 9 at approximately 9:15 pm.

According to Hyde Park Police Chief Robert Benson, the youth from LaGrange was traveling southbound on Route 9 when he was struck by a vehicle that was also traveling southbound.  The 22-year-old male driver of the vehicle that struck the cyclist is from Poughkeepsie.  The collision occurred in the vicinity of the Speedway gas station.

The identities of both are being withheld and, according to Chief Benson, the New York State Police are conducting an accident reconstruction investigation.

Initial reports from the scene indicated that the deceased youth was a 9-year-old girl.  The Fairview and Roosevelt fire departments assisted at the scene along with Mobile Life Support Services, Northern Dutchess Paramedics, Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, and the New York State DOT.

The Hyde Park Police Department updated the information on Monday morning.  Anyone that may have witnessed the accident is asked to call the police at 845-229-9340.
