POUGHKEEPSIE – City and Town of Poughkeepsie police responded to multiple reports of a shooting at the King Street Park in the city Saturday night around 8:30 p.m.

Several people were in the park at the time of the shooting.  A 24-year-old male victim was shot several times and was transported to MidHudson Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after 9:00 p.m., authorities said.

Later in the evening, around 10 p.m., as city police were still investigating the murder at the park, dispatchers received several reports of shots fired in the vicinity of South White and Church Streets.  As officers were searching the area looking for suspects seen fleeing, more shots were reportedly fired near Reservoir Square on Cannon Street.

Multiple police units responded to the area in search of possible suspects that were observed on city surveillance cameras.

Town of Poughkeepsie police assisted the city at the King Street shooting.

Emergency radio transmissions indicated that units from the State Police and the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office were responding to the city to provide assistance.

The Town of Lloyd police were asked to monitor westbound traffic from the Mid-Hudson Bridge looking for vehicles of interest from the various shootings.

Early Sunday morning, City of Poughkeepsie Police Captain Richard Wilson told Mid-Hudson News that city officers, assisted by State Police and Dutchess County Sheriff’s deputies responded to 10 additional incidents of “shots fired” throughout the city.

Captain Wilson said police are asking anyone with information about any crime to call the confidential tip line at 845-451-7577.
