MONTICELLO – There are moratoriums on new development in the Orange County towns of Montgomery and New Windsor and that may be a benefit for Sullivan County, to the northwest.
Sullivan County Partnership President Marc Baez said developers are now taking note of the opportunities a little farther from the New York metropolitan area.
“The biggest impediment was distance, the perceived distance, that we are a bridge too far. I’m not taking my truck at $3.75 per mile, however many trucks I have a day, 20 minutes north and back and in the winter and all that other stuff,” he said. “I think what this (COVID-19) crisis has done, it has opened their mind and said it really isn’t that far.”
Because of those factors, Baez said there is new economic development interest in Sullivan County.
