SUNY Orange enrollment is up.

MIDDLETOWN – SUNY Orange is facing an unknown financial future because of the economic impacts of COVID-19.

The college board of trustees, Wednesday, approved a $62.36 million budget for the 2020-2021 academic year.

Orange County will contribute $19 million while the state has budgeted $13 million. The state figure may change, though, because New York is in a $30 billion hole because of the virus.

The college financial situation is fluid, President Dr., Kristine Young acknowledged following the board meeting.

“We understand that the State of New York has not realized the revenues it expected and, of course, it has had extraordinary expenses tending to COVID-19 concerns, so we are prepared to learn from the State of New York that it is not going to be able to deliver the $13 million that are on paper right now,” she said.
