NEW CITY – One of two Rockland County Jail corrections officers indicted on several charges involving sexual mistreatment of female minority inmates, was arraigned on a 23-count indictment on Tuesday.
Christopher Taggert, 39, of New City, is charged with two counts of promoting prison contraband as a felony and 21 counts of official misconduct as misdemeanors.
Taggart was released on his own recognizance with conditions to which he must adhere.
“This type of abuse of authority will not be tolerated and our office stands ready to vigorously prosecute this matter in order to ensure the public’s trust that those who do so will be held accountable for their actions,” said District Attorney Tom Walsh.
A second defendant, John Kezek, 35, of Stony Point, was indicted on five counts of official misconduct. He allegedly engaged in a course of sexual harassment of more than one female minority inmate.
