NEWBURGH – During the last election cycle, Newburgh City Councilman Omari Shakur and his New Voters Movement registered 1,000 new voters.

With the selection of Senator Kamala Harris as the Democratic vice-presidential candidate, Shakur, who is now a Newburgh City councilman, said the local organization will target another 1,000 new voters.

“The younger people and the people who just moved into town,” will be the emphasis of the group this time, he said.

Shakur said his group will also be focused on getting residents to the polls to cast the ballots for the Democratic ticket of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.
