ALBANY – A Chatham man was sentenced in Albany federal court on Wednesday to five years in prison for possession of a firearm by a felon and possession with the intent to distribute cocaine.

Carlos Rivera, 43, was also ordered to serve six years of supervised release following his incarceration, and to forfeit to the government $7,000 in proceeds from his drug trafficking activity, as well as a 12-gauge shotgun.

Rivera admitted that in September 2018, he possessed approximately 479.5 grams of cocaine in his bathroom, and 400 grams of cocaine in his garage hidden in plastic container that he had magnetically attached to his car; a scale; and drug packaging material.

In his bathroom, officers found a 12-gauge shotgun; 12-gauge ammunition on the floor near the shotgun; additional ammunition in his closet; and $5,000 in his dresser.

The case was investigated by the DEA and the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, and prosecuted by Assistant US Attorney Troy Anderson.
