POUGHKEEPSIE – A one-car accident on Church Street (eastbound arterial) in Poughkeepsie Monday morning closed all three lanes.

A vehicle traveling east struck the corner of the building at 187 Church Street, igniting a fire at the building. The car then rolled over and landed on its roof in the road. The vehicle operator was transported to a local hospital.

When Central Hudson arrived to terminate power to the building, Poughkeepsie firefighters went to work extinguishing the fire.  They were assisted by the Arlington Fire Department and Mobile Life Support medics.  The fire had traveled through the soffits and proved difficult to locate and extinguish.  The eastbound arterial was closed for an extended period of time as firefighters worked in the sweltering heat.
