MIDDLETOWN – With September just around the corner, the Middletown City School District is proposing a hybrid reopening format combining in-school and remote teaching.

Superintendent of Schools Richard Del Moro outlined the proposal on a Facebook conversation with Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney (D, NY-18) on Wednesday.

Del Moro said it would have somewhat of a modified format.

“We are keeping students home for the first five weeks of the school term and bringing the teachers into their own classroom to promote distance learning from that regard so that they would have access to all of their supplies, all of their materials, all of their resources at their fingertips,” he said.

The district would then transition to weekly schedules of two days in school and three days of distance learning alternating with three days in school and two days of distance learning aimed at keeping class size down because of COVID-19.

The plan, like those of all school districts in New York, are subject to state approval.
