MOUNT VERNON – Mayor Shawyn Patterson-Howard has named Lyndon Williams as city court judge following the elevation of Judge Adrian Armstrong to the State Court of Claims.

Williams, who is currently a Westchester County legislator, will serve the remainder of Armstrong’s term and run for election in November.

Williams was selected after a screening process by the Mayor’s Judicial Committee.

“As a former drug court coordinator the years I served at the Mount Vernon City Court gave me a unique insight on the challenges and needs of the community,” said the mayor. “My choice is reflective of my experience during that time.”

“The qualities of a judge require good character and temperament, to be fair and unbiased, respectful and efficient as well as the ability to apply the applicable law to the relevant facts at hand,” said Williams. “I believe that my public service experience in the city and county legislative bodies, and legal experience and skills as an attorney handling complex legal matters, makes me eminently qualified to serve Mount Vernon as its next city court judge.”

Lyndon Williams was first elected County Legislator for the 13th Legislative District in Mount Vernon in November 2007. He was re-elected in 2009 and 2011. In 2010 and 2012, Mr. Williams was elected by his colleagues to serve as Vice-Chairman of the Westchester County Board of Legislators. Prior to serving at the county level, Lyndon was a member of the Mount Vernon City Council having been elected for three four-year terms. He served as President of the City Council for three one-year terms.
