PEARL RIVER – An estimated 200 people attended a Back the Blue rally in Pearl River on Sunday.

The event was held to show support for police officers across the Hudson Valley and New York City.

Rockland County Executive Ed Day, a retired police officer, attended the rally.

“I was proud to have been asked to speak at Sunday’s ‘Back the Blue’ rally held in Pearl River. This rally, over 2000 strong, was about reestablishing basic respect for our society and the law enforcement personnel who are sworn to protect us,” he said. “There was clear recognition that while we respect those who exercise their rights to peacefully protest to gain attention and solutions to grievances, those who could care less and engage in criminal anarchy must be stopped now. We are calling for full commitment and resolve by elected leaders to take the necessary steps now to address these concerns.”

While the event was peaceful, not everyone practiced COVID-19 protections as a number of people were seen without wearing face coverings while standing close to one another.
