NORTH EAST – The Millerton Fire Company along with the Sharon, Connecticut Fire Company and Lakeville, Connecticut Hose Company battled a fire at 4489 Route 199 in Millerton Friday afternoon that started in the laundry room of the house.

Millerton Chief Jason Watson arrived four minutes after being dispatched and saw flames coming through the roof of the structure.  He immediately requested a second alarm, summoning additional assistance the Amenia, Copake, Wassaic, and Pine Plains fire departments.  Fire department tankers were deployed to get water to the firefighters at the fire.

Chief Watson and the firefighters were able to knock down most of the fire in half an hour.  The Dutchess County Fire Investigation Division has determined the cause of the blaze to be an electrical malfunction.

“All of the fire departments did a tremendous job,” said Watson. “In rural areas like this, getting water to the fire can be a challenge but we all worked well together to get this fire out without injuries to the homeowner or firefighters.”

There were no reports of injuries.
