SAUGERTIES – An elderly Woodstock man was charged with failing to yield the right of way and causing a crash with another vehicle at Shultis Corners in the Town of Saugerties on Thursday morning.

Saugerties Police said Cornelius Rose III, 87, was driving a 2019 Nissan Rouge on Glasco Turnpike at around 7:19 a.m. when he drove across Route 212 failing to yield to oncoming traffic. He collided with a 2005 Ford Excursion driven by Anthony Cobey, 23, of West Hurley, who was traveling east on Route 212.

The impact caused Cobey’s vehicle to proceed across the road, up an embankment, and through a sign before coming to rest in a wooded area.

Rose’s vehicle sustained significant damage resulting in Rose having to be extricated by firefighters.

He was cited for failing to stop and yield the right of way.

Saugerties Police were assisted at the scene by the Centerville Fire Department, Diaz Ambulance, and State Police.
