Police seek to recover stolen Spanish Civil War medal

CATSKILL – The Catskill Police Department is seeking assistance and information about a stolen military medal dating back to the Spanish Civil War.

The medal was awarded to the victim’s father who was a member of the “Abraham Lincoln Brigade” and served in that war. The victim’s father was severely wounded in 1937 during the war and was awarded the medal shortly thereafter.

Catskills Police are trying to recover the medal as it is a family heirloom. No questions will be asked if the medal is turned into the police. Anyone with information on its whereabouts will be kept confidential. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Deitz at 518-943-2244.

The medal is gold and depicts Abraham Lincoln with his hands on the shoulder of a soldier. The back is engraved with the name J. Robert Raven.
