KINGSTON – Ulster County Area Transit has been awarded $5 million in CARES Act emergency federal funding.

The grant, through the Federal Transit Administration, will allow transit services to continue in the Ulster County area during the COVID-19 pandemic by mitigating the devastating financial impact of the crisis on local transit systems.

The funding will be used to support necessary operating expenses, such as maintaining the operational ability and system readiness and allowing UCAT to respond to the community’s transit needs.

UCAT serves the county including the City of Kingston and provides residents with public transit options to connect to Orange and Dutchess counties.

The funding was announced by Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand and Congressman Antonio Delgado.
