FISHKILL – The buzz word for reimaging police agencies around the state is “defunding,” with many people calling for some of the funding currently going to police to be shifted to community and social programs to help those in need.

One who promises never to defund his town’s police department is Fishkill Town Supervisor Ozzie Albra.

“There will be no defunding. I will not defund the police department and we are probably going to hire extra officers because we are going to do police accreditation, something I always wanted to do here, and that is going to require a dedicated officer to do that,” he said.

Albra is a retired Town of Bedford Police Officer.

The Fishkill Police Department is headed by Chief Keith Dworkin and operates 24/7 using part-time officers.
