Recently fired Thruway worker charged with attempted arson

CANAAN – State Police have arrested a Washington (Dutchess County), New York man on a felony charge of attempted arson.

It is alleged that around 4 p.m. on Wednesday, July 22, Bradley Straley, 37, tried to light an occupied Thruway vehicle on fire. He had recently been fired from the Thruway Authority.

Straley fled the scene of the incident at the Canaan toll plaza on I-90 in the Town of Canaan, but was later taken into custody by State Police Troop K patrols on the Taconic State Parkway. No one was injured.

Straley was arraigned virtually in Hudson City Court and remanded to the Columbia County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or $15,000 bond.
